Inspired by the grid-based work of Agnes Martin, this was a week-long experiment in color and line. Using layers of oil paint to create slightly inconsistent, organic color fields and various colored pencils to impose a rigid structure within, the final works are meant to explore the relationships between the natural and the mechanical.
The color and spatial divisions of the line work were decided as the color fields were developing, sometimes being drawn on before the painting was completed in order to further distort the relationship between the two.
