I’ll go through five or six rolls of black and white before loading a roll of color. Everything I like about communicating through photography aligns more with making series out of shadows. This doesn’t mean I loathe color—quite the opposite. I just have never found my place in its world.
This is not to say I haven’t tried.
In my various travels—in a city, a country, or the world—I’ve used black and white to document the experience. I have always shot rolls of color in these spaces, but I’ve never really used color for final projects. It’s always been more of a personal experiment than a cohesive statement.
There have been shots along the way that I’ve enjoyed, and thus this collection. The film used is all sorts—Fuji Provia slide film, Kodak Portra, and a bunch of random found rolls that I had no clue how to control the outcome—and so there’s quite a mixed bag of aesthetics within the gallery.
