Distorted Perspective, Issue One. “Mediums.” The first production in a multi-format project conceptually oriented in observing human behavior through the lens of media theory and how the evolution of communicative technologies has aligned with social and political movements. (This project, due to the batshit crazy circumstances of 2020, was halted; it eventually became Gap Year Book Club.)
This introduction is based in my original love of DIY punk zines, graphic design, and Marshall McLuhan’s media theories published in the mid-20th century. It is a combination of personal observations, opinions and art from this summer, reporting on the pandemic and protests by way of how we, as Americans, use media in our lives and how that uncoordinated and misunderstood collective action has allowed for these inhuman systems of power to lead the USA to this precipice.
The first, and only, issue was published August 2020.
