I’ve never been good with expressing feelings through traditional means of gift-giving, be it flowers or gift cards or a wrapped box with some item and a recepit inside. There are other times when using words even feels a bit off-the-mark. It was at a point like that in early 2020 where I made this.
Many things were happening simultaneously—both personally and globally—and I was having trouble finding any peae of mind. Struggling with keeping a serious relationship, I’d taken to a Concertina-style Moleskine to work through it.
Using the meditative, parallel-lines format of my ongoing Standing Still In A Storm project, I drew one entire side in horizontal lines and the opposite in vertical—the intention was to create a fully balanced book, even as the two sides featured composed opposites.
As this was a gift, it was never exhibited and is rarely shown in the project archives, but is another example of how that project has made its way into various aspects of my life.
