“Nomadland”

Written & directed by Chloé Zhao, 2020.

What a lovely little film this is. Manages to tackle the weight of so much with an almost serene sense of calm.

Of course, nothing can be without unease given the subject matter, but how the subjects of anxiety and loss are portrayed are quit an accomplishment. They follow the film like a shadow, always present but still allowing for the actual subjects to remain front and center. A movie with so much emotional weight actually pulls quite a few punches that traditional American independent filmmakers might jump at, but in doing so becomes quite graceful.
