As much as I enjoy watching live basketball, I can’t say I’m a fan of what is happening in the NBA. The PR line would be that the glass dividers between broadcasters and the coaches wearing masks are some sort of show of solidarity that we’re ‘all in this together,’ but it’s really just anxiety inducing. Like, nobody should be at work right now, but then sending mixed messages about what is safe on a national broadcast seems negligent to me. (& while I get they desperately need revenue streams, there’s something very American about the fact the seats have had tarps with corporate logos draped over them for additional on-screen advertising during games.)

There’s never been a better case for how much America is controlled by the media than observing how normalizing the optics of the pandemic has been more important than coming to the aid of people for quite literally every single institution of the United States
